At Seattle Preschool we believe every child has a unique way of loving, learning, and growing. It is from this belief that we have developed a program and curriculum which gives children the opportunity to explore self-expression in a supportive, caring enviroment.
In the classroom we offer our students a balanced blend of self-directed play and structured activity. We use projects and theme-based activities creatively designed to nuture social awareness, a positive self concept, and a lifelong love of learning. There is a maximum of a 1:10 adult-child ratio.
Seattle Preschool offers both morning and afternoon preschool programs. The morning class is held from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and the afternoon class is from 12:00 PM- 4:00 PM. Both include an hour of gymnastics.
There are two circle times each day, affording your child many opportunities to participate in group discussions, share ideas and gain confidence speaking in front of a group. We use the curriculum "Second Step" to teach empathy, emotional management and problem solving skills, providing students with a foundation for meeting life's challenges with independence and confidence.
We use projects and activities inspired by the world around us to nurture your child's natural curiosity and encourage in depth learning about each theme in our program. Students have daily access to educational toys, games, puzzles, art and writing tools, dramatic play and sensory activities. We also have a reading nook where children can share quiet time enjoying books and theme related books from the Seattle Public Library.
Each day consists of exercise and creative movement with SGA's trained staff, promoting healthy gross motor skill development, and fostering trust and self awareness. The staff uses positive encouragement, progressive teaching and age-appropriate equipment to teach basic gymnastics skills and instill a life long enjoyment of being active. The teaching staff and SGA staff members work closely to adapt and transfer classroom themes to gym time. We share information daily so that the needs of your child are met with continuity and consistency.

We provide a save, fun and educational environment. The staff keep up on new discoveries and education in Early Childhood Development by attending classes and seminars. Our lead teacher and Director, Julie Silverstein has 12 years experience teaching Preschool, with certifications in Early Childhood Education plus extensive experience in early childhood movement education through operating her own studio. She also worked at the Point Arena Little School in 1999. She served for two years in Americorps until recently moving to Washington. Her assistant, Katie Nutt, is in her second year at Seattle Preschool and is also an experienced instructor from our gymnastics program.
